Denene Millner is an award-winning entertainment journalist and novelist. She is the author of 18 books, including Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man which she co-wrote with Steve Harvey. The book was named the best selling non-fiction book of 2009 by Nielsen, and remains on the New York Times Advice Bestseller List, where it spent 23 weeks in the #1 spot and has remained in the top ten for 54 consecutive weeks. It was also on the Publishers Weekly’s Hardcover Non-fiction Bestseller List for 37 consecutive weeks.
Ms. Millner also wrote the Nene Leakes’ memoir with Real Housewives of Atlanta star. The book, Never Make the Same Mistake twice: Lessons on Life and Love Learned the Hard Way which was the subject of a five [publishing] house bidding war. Ms. Millner penned the novelization of the Academy Award-winning movie, Dreamgirls, as well as her own novels, Love Don’t Live Here Anymore, In Love & War, and A Love Story. And her co-written novel, The Vow (which has been optioned for Gabrielle Union), was named one of Borders Best of 2005. She is also the co-author of the three-book teen series, Hotlanta for Scholastic (which has been optioned by Warner Brothers).
Millner provides witty, engaging mom-to-mom advice on ethics and etiquette on everything from childbearing and rearing to marriage, work, and friendship for Parenting magazine and iVillage’s Momtourage. A doting and prolific working mother, Ms. Millner is the founder and editor of MyBrownBaby, a critically acclaimed blog that examines parenting and motherhood through the lens of a multi-cultural experience. Millner, is a contributing editor for Essence magazine, and a regular contributor to a plethora of other publications like Health, Entertainment Weekly, Heart & Soul, Money, and Ebony. She is also the co- author, with her husband, the Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist, Nick Chiles, of the best-selling advice book series, What Brothers Think, What Sistahs Know.
Nnedi Okorafor, a professor of creative writing at Chicago State University, is an author who has the remarkable ability to illuminate complex cultural issues in traditional and modern African communities by drawing on her own experiences; as an Nigerian-American. Nnedi Okorafor has previously published short stories and two young adult novels, for which she’s won numerous awards. Her first novel, Zahrah the Windseeker won the Wole Soyinka Prize for African Literature. Her second novel, The Shadow Speaker won the Carl Brandon Society Parallax Award. She is the winner of the 2007/08 Macmillan Writer’s Prize for Africa for her children’s book, Long Juju Man. WHO FEARS DEATH is Nnedi Okorafor’s first book for an adult audience. WHO FEARS DEATH tells the story of a young woman who finds the power within herself to free the people of her tribe from a violent history and an uncertain future.
